Jessica L. Richert

A five-year old’s desire to be Judge Wapner (People’s Court) when she grew up has developed into a passion for the law. After moving from Richmond, Indiana, to Florida as a child, Jessica received her Bachelor’s degree in Criminology from the University of South Florida in 2006.

During and after her undergraduate studies, Jessica gained business experience in the manufacturing, construction, automotive, and transportation industries.  In 2013, Jessica and her son started school together: Jessica began her legal education at Barry University School of Law, and her son began preschool.

While participating in Barry’s Juvenile Defense Clinic, Jessica represented juvenile clients against criminal charges and authored a successful appeal to the Fifth District Court of Appeal of Florida. Additionally, her article, “Victims with Responsibilities: Requiring Male Victims of Statutory Rape to Pay Child Support with No Escape,” was selected for publication in Barry’s Child and Family Law Journal (under the name of Jessica Persaud). Jessica received her Juris Doctor from Barry University School of Law in 2016, graduating in the top 5% of her class.

Jessica returned to Richmond at the end of 2017. Her family has been highly involved in the Richmond community for over sixty years. She is excited to have the opportunity to make her own mark on her home town.

Jessica zealously represents her clients, while helping them focus on their long-term interests. She believes that interest-based negotiations generally lead to better results. As the 14th Dali Lama said, “Peace is not simply the absence of war. It is not a passive state of being. We must wage peace, as vigilantly as we wage war.” It is this outlook that makes Jessica an advocate of Collaborative Family Law. If you’ve never heard of Collaborative Family Law, ask Jessica; she would love to tell you about it and why it may be a great choice for your family!

Jessica is admitted to practice law in the State of Indiana, the State of Florida, and the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida.
